Vendors

Many of you have probably already noticed this but John Lovett at JupiterResearch just released his “Web Analytics Buyer’s Guide: Assessing Vendors’ Competencies and Value” (requires registration.)  Having done one of these reports myself back in the day I want to congratulate John on publishing an amazingly detailed and insightful piece of work.  John has a blog p

The same guys that want you all to believe web analytics is easy has now declared that “Visitor engagement formulas are largely another fad, just like parachute pants and the Hollywood diet. It’s a measure some consultants and vendors can pitch like snake oil.”

No, it’s really not, sorry.  But as long as I have your attention I wanted to talk about a thread developing at the Web Analytics Forum about IndexTools not yet being freely available to all that I think is pretty interesting.

Web Analytics Wednesday in San Francisco this week was an amazing success by every conceivable measure. But don’t take my word for it, here are the metrics and key performance indicators:

Last Wednesday I had the honor and pleasure of helping break the story about Yahoo’s acquisition of IndexTools. My post was pretty well received, generating over 40 comments and a handful of citations in the popular press. In that post I speculated two things:

Those of you who regularly attend the Emetrics Marketing Optimization Summit here in the states know that from time to time we hold big Web Analytics Wednesday events in conjunction with the conference.  Especially in San Francisco where the philosophical founder of WAW lives (June Dershewitz!) we like to have big events.

This time June and her partner David are planning a doozy!

The nice folks at Elastic Path asked me awhile back to give a presentation on web analytics for online retailers.  Their request made me realize I am still sitting on data I collected last Fall — a mistake I know but a function of the velocity at which Web Analytics Demystified, Inc. has grown in the past year.  To make up for this delay in some small way I will be sharing the data I collected from online retailers in a free webcast this coming Thursday.

Yahoo! just announced that it has acquired IndexTools. When I first heard about this deal I thought “Oh, that’s nice for Dennis and Dennis is a pretty nice guy so that’s nice … and the title of Director, Data Insights at Yahoo! is a pretty nice title.” But then I really stopped to consider what Yahoo!

Matt Belkin of Omniture recently posted on a few of the pitfalls companies fall into when deploying web analytics. I was pretty surprised to see Matt, someone who was worked in this field nearly as long as I have, make the following statement:

I like the description. Coz I have never been such a cold european country. But I love to see and visit Finland someday.
What a peaceful country. I saw many nature pics of Finland. But I knowledged more from this lovely, description of this US boy.

I’ve always imagined other African countries as more “traditional” Africa (I think of Kenya first), so it’s interesting to hear it’s one of the least “morphed”. And that it’s green and has spicy food…I’ve never really put Ethiopia on my list of places I wanted to travel to until now.

There’s been much criticism about the WSS protests “not being very Buddhist!”
Recently we see in the news (see link below) Tens of thousands of South Korean Buddhists peacefully demonstrating waving placards and fists, chanting
“Oppose religious discrimination” against their country’s leader and government.

Are they not Buddhists too?

Hi Adriana,

I do not know anything about that. Does anyone else?
I believe the company is based in Germany, but my only guess is that being technically in Mauritius offers a certain favorable tax status?
But I really don’t know. Is anyone wiser on this issue?

Clint,
I really appreciate that you started this blog. I have been contacted by them and also wondered about their legitimacy. My advisor says that the company is in Mauritius. Do you know anything about that?
