FYI -- Everyone's blog comments are now being aggregated onto this site. Look at the right column near the bottom to see the latest comments from our blogs.

Visit http://ebiz2.byu.edu/analytics/recent-comments to see all the comments. There you can subscribe to an comment rss feed as well.

One slight technical snafu. For each blog there is only on comment feed. If you write on topics other then web analytics, you might not want comments to your blog unrelated to the class to be brought onto this site. If that is a problem, just contact me (Kyle) and I'll remove your comment feed.

I now have confirmed at least one visitor for our American Idol of Online Marketing day - so we will be having the presentations and discussion on Thursday, Jan 24th.

I just wanted to let everyone know we will be lucky enough to have one of the experts in marketing come speak to our class today. Dr. Glenn L. Christensen, one of the most enjoyed lecturers in the Marriott School, will present today on some of the basic foundational principles in marketing. He has expertise in marketing strategy and consumer behavior.

Because you have been preparing your presentations on specific parts of online marketing, I want you to ask yourself two questions as he is speaking today:
1. How does this apply to the topic I am researching?

Attached is the course syllabus. If you have any questions or suggestions, please email me. Thanks!

Using all of the best resources you can find (web resources, eBusiness wiki, online lectures, people, books, etc) each of you will create (in teams of 2-3) a BrainHoney lesson regarding best practices and key examples in one of a number of online marketing areas:
- SEO
- Keyword Saturation (Chris, Tucker, Allen)
- Link Exchange (Lauren, Erin)
- Dynamic Content (Rob, Jared, Peter)
- Search Engine Submission (Fernando, Nick)
- Permission Marketing (Email strategies)
- Pay per Click (Brian, Peter, Joe)
- Affiliate Marketing (Vlad, Kyle)
- Viral Marketing (David, Kirk, Richard)

As you already know - your assignment for class is to create a blog, add web analytics, and then post two entries:
1. your expectations for what you want to get out of this class
2. something funny (cartoon, joke, funny personal experience, YouTube video, etc)

Then email me webanalytics.class@gmail.com the URL and RSS Feed for your blog.

Welcome to the class community web space. Your first assignment here is to create an account and add the RSS Feed to your blog.
- To add your rss feed, click on "Create content" - then scroll down and click on "Feed"
- From there, add the rss feed that you want to be pulled into the class space.

Also, create 2-5 Bookmark tags of valuable Web Analytics resources on the Internet.

We'll go through this in class.

Here is an interesting example of celebrating African art and
ingenuity which coincidentally happened in Amsterdam only a week ago.

Africa, Surprising Africa
Cross media storytelling, vibrant, social and creative development
from cities across Africa

In most cases Africa may lack the physical resources to meet various needs in the society but definitely not the brain power on how to go about solving the problems. So the aid that is often offered to African or developing countries will be far more beneficial if the recipients are part of the decision making process, not only that, but actually driving the projects themselves because they understand the context better.

As today is Gandhi’s birthday, I thought I would share this quote, which I think applies to the discussion.

“I am wedded to India because I owe my all to her. I believe absolutely that she has a mission for the world. She is not to copy Europe blindly.” - Gandhi

I think a similar thing could be said of each part of Africa, etc… - there is a mission to fulfill for the world.

A very powerful contribution Ueli! This is indeed the attitude we should take, honest, frank, open to criticism, and use it in own circles to lobby for a change in attitude among those that have a bit more (money or political or otherwise) power!?
