A couple of days ago at the Mediapost OMMA Behavioral Insider event, I presented to the audience about what should be the best friend of behavioral targeting networks: site optimization and site targeting.

I wonder if anything has more impact on our future than the questions we ask?
First, if we take it on more of a micro-level, imagine going into any random meeting. You will see things differently and have a different experience if you are asking “How can I get out of this meeting as quickly as [...]

If you're in San Francisco this Wednesday, July 23, join us for a great seaside party. We're sponsoring a Web Analytics Wednesday at the Gordon Biersch Brewery (map), right next to Google's San Francisco office, with beautiful views of the bay and the Bay Bridge.

Many site owners spend a lot of time creating content that is supposed to drive conversions. But what’s the best way to measure the performance of this content with Google Analytics? How can we measure a specific piece of content, be it a page or a piece of creative, and it effect on conversions?

It’s a sad reality that many well-known organizations, including many Fortune 500 companies, still don’t understand the value of organic search.  Even some businesses with multi-million dollar paid search budgets have focused little effort in optimizing their sites for organic search.  The fact is these organizations are failing to capitalize on a major acquisition channel, and while they have yet to adopt search engine optimization (SEO) as a legitimate and standard marketing practice, their competitors are reaping the benefits.

So far in my nascent Online Ad Business 101 series, I've covered the overall advertising value chain, and looked at a superficial level at how an ad 'call' is actually handled. This installment brings together themes from those two first posts, by taking a look at ad networks.

Recently, I watched all 5 seasons of Angel on DVD, and now I'm watching all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (I realize that I'm going backwards, but I just had to know Angel's back story.) If you've watched the shows, you know that the character Angel starts off as one thing and ends up as something completely different.

Many of you have probably already noticed this but John Lovett at JupiterResearch just released his “Web Analytics Buyer’s Guide: Assessing Vendors’ Competencies and Value” (requires registration.)  Having done one of these reports myself back in the day I want to congratulate John on publishing an amazingly detailed and insightful piece of work.  John has a blog p

Just found this. I liked it.

At school:
“Indicators of critical thinking can be identified through the types of activities in which the teacher engages the students. For example:

On a much different note—though in my relatively average mind, related (and in my native tongue of ENGLISH =o) )—you can spend 5 minutes with a child and realize that having questions is instinctive. You’re right about adults not having near as many. At least not verbalizing them. Somewhere throughout their formative years we squelch the curiosity, or don’t provide a learning environment conducive of asking them. Or don’t provide an atmosphere where they feel comfortable asking them.

Yeah - I think people struggle with similar issues, but on slightly different levels… you are challenged by trying to simultaneously grapple with running a 1-parameter logistic model AND the assumptions underlying perception and epistemology
- and others find it difficult to chew gum AND walk at the same time. :)

Now you got me thinking… never good when I’m trying to run a 1-parameter logistic model.

I’m not sure of the linearity between priorities, assumptions, and questions, but they are surely inter-related. Your examples show why assumptions may precede priorities. Perhaps they’re the same construct, but we have yet to unify them. Or perhaps I’m dead wrong and you’re right.

You’re right, people are skeptical of those with power - and usually for good reason and from lots of previous experience.

I do think America is misunderstood a lot - I’ve noticed how often here in Africa people confuse American culture and American media. And unfortunately the media is a very poor reflection of the culture.

Strange as it may seem, even in the remotest parts of Africa I find American media - and usually in Chinese packaging. I wonder if the artist ever imagined in their wildest dreams their music/film/etc would be played in the contexts it is.
